  • Francisco Serdoura, graduated in architecture from FAUTL in 1986, date from which he started practicing architecture in a firm. In January 1988, he joined the Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC), in the Grupo de Urbanismo e Planeamento Municipal (GURPAM), as junior researcher. During that time, he obtained an ERASMUS scholarship to attend at the master’s program of the Department of Civic Design at the University of Liverpool.

    He completed his master’s thesis at Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (UTL) in 2005. The thesis is entitled: “Contributos para a Avaliação de Impactes Urbanísticos de Grandes Empreendimentos Imobiliários” and deals with an indicators proposal to support the decision-making in planning permission and building permit, focus in the urban quality in the surrounding area of a megastructure.

    In his doctoral thesis entitled Espaço Público, Vida Pública. O caso do Parque das Nações completed in 2006 at IST/UTL, he proposes a methodology for assess the urban life patterns developed by the people in the public space. The thesis, analyse and assess the co-relation between the typology of the urban fabric and the urban life patterns that can be observed in it. The thesis shows the existing relation between the urban and the environmental factors that contributes to the increasing the liveability of an urban area, in order to promote it, stimulating people to stay there, where the optional and social activities take place.

    Currently he is in exclusive dedication to FA ULisboa where he develops research related to the use of space in architecture and urban design.

    His fundamental interests are: Spatial Analysis, Urban Vitality, Sustainable Mobility, Walkability, Public Space, Space Syntax, Urban Design, Tourism, Urban Renewal, Urban and Regional Planning.
