  • Originally from Iran, Vina did her bachelors in architectural engineering from University of Tehran and her post-professional masters in architecture from Penn State. Vina’s general research interest lies in using data-driven response for solving larger urban energy problems. She has a passion in machine learning, big data, and human-centered design and calls herself an urban-technologist. She has been working as a researcher at Autodesk on various topics such as smart cities, net zero communities, application of BIM at city scale, urban system optimization, and generating insights to inform smart design of the vertical environment (buildings) based on the horizontal context (infrastructure).

    In her PhD, Vina is currently using machine learning algorithms to explore the underlying relationship between urban form and energy performance in solar community microgrids. The final outcome of her research is a software prototype for simulating the energy performance of solar community microgrids in realtime using a machine learning model as the backend.
