  • Zélia Simões completed the Architectural degree at the Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologia, Portugal and attended the last year at the Universität Gesamthochschule Kassel, Germany, under Erasmus – Sócrates Programme. During that year, under the Leonardo da Vinci Programme, had worked as a trainee at Atelier Naussauishe Heimstatte Frankfurt, Germany. In 2007, concluded a MSc Degree in Colour in Architecture at the Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, having developed the dissertation “The colour and nature as metaphors in the poetics of materiality” and attended a MSc Degree in Fine Arts at Utrecht Graduate School of Visual Art and Design, Netherlands.

    As a continuation of the research in the materialities of light and colour, started the PhD under the provisory title “The expression and interaction of materiality in space: interdisciplinarity between design, construction and living” at the Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade de Lisboa. Among some of her work and collaborations in studios, have been participated in undergraduate and postgraduate design and architecture courses, conferences, seminars and workshops (national and international) and developing expertises in urban plan, architecture and design.

    Monitor of the Exper.Croma (Colour and Space Perception Experimental Module) of the Laboratório da Cor, Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade de Lisboa, it is also investigator (contributor investigator) of the CIAUD – Centro de Investigação em Arquitectura, Urbanismo e Design, founding member of the Associação Portuguesa da Cor, member of the Study Group on Environmental Colour Design of the International Colour Association and of the Ordem dos Arquitectos.
