  • Zélia Simões completed the Architectural degree at the Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias, Portugal and attended the last year at the Universität Gesamthochschule Kassel, Germany, under Erasmus – Sócrates Programme. During that year, under the Leonardo da Vinci Programme, had worked as a trainee at Atelier Naussauishe Heimstatte Frankfurt, Germany. In 2007, concluded a MSc Degree in Colour in Architecture at the Lisbon School of Architecture, The Technical University of Lisbon, having developed the dissertation “The colour and nature as metaphors in the poetics of materiality” and attended a MSc Degree in Fine Arts at Utrecht Graduate School of Visual Art and Design, Netherlands.

    As a continuation of the research in the materialities of light and colour, started the PhD under the provisory title “The expression and interaction of materiality in space: interdisciplinarity between design, construction and living” at the Lisbon School of Architecture, University of Lisbon.

    Founding Member of the ‘Portuguese Colour Association’ and author of several scientific publications has been collaborating, organizing and participating in national and international scientific meetings, as well as, teaching in Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Master’s and PhD’s Degree Courses in Design, Architecture and Urbanism. Acts as Architect at DSA – Architects International (Europe).

    Research Interests: Colour and Light, Urban and Architectural Space, Senses and (Im) materiality, Health and Comfort, Transdisciplinarity and Interdisciplinarity.
